Job Description :
The Toponymist/Linguist Apprentice will analyze and merge information associated with feature data within the Geographic Names Database (GNDB) as well as update the GNDB when required. The applicant will Interpret and apply national and international policies governing the treatment of names and use general guidelines while using the Geographic Names Processing System (GNPS), charts, imagery, and geospatial tools to refine names information. The toponymist will produce standard and non-standard NGA intelligenc products including translation support specializing in Albanian/Serbian, Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, Greek, Hebrew, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Pashto, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Uzbek, and Vietnamese. A minimum proficiency skill level 2 for Reading is required. Map reading skills and GEOSPATIAL knowledge will strongly assist in product development, research, and customer analytical understanding.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline or equivalent experience/combined education. Clearance requirement: Active Top Secret Level Clearance with SCI Eligibility, Access and Investigation must appear in JPAS and be within scope (5 – Years). Toponymist services include support of the production of standard and non-standard NGA intelligence products. including limited translation support. The primary focus of the linguist/geographic names support will be, but not limited to, regional toponymy specializing in Albanian/Serbian, Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, Greek, Hebrew, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Pashto, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Uzbek, and Vietnamese. For all languages, a minimum proficiency skill level 2 for Reading is required as defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Proficiency Levels or the equivalent that meets or exceeds the ILR skill level 2. Testing must have taken place within two years prior to issuance of a Task Order. Basic familiarity with computer operations Knowledge of data retrieval/storage and generating reports. Knowledge of computer programs: Common office software i.e. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and e-mail. Basic knowledge of geography, cartography, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Basic knowledge of geography, Basic map reading skills, Skills, Knowledge and understanding of GIS applications/geospatial analysis. Basic knowledge of research gathering: Internet search tools, Library functions (query, ordering, etc.).
