We heard the shocking news that today, January 6, 2018, the beloved Prof. Ricaro Cierbide passed away at the age of 81. This is a great loss to all Spanish-, Basque and Occitan-speaking scholar communities. It is a great loss to the Universidad del País Vasco, Sociedad Vasca de Onomástica, Sociedad Española de Lingüística and much more. They really lost a great Father, President and Teacher.
The Society of Basque Onomastics is pride of having been friends with him and having dedicated a tribute book just a few months ago. There you can read his biography and description of his extensive and important, inter alia, onomastic research from 1970 to 2016. Prof. Ricaro Cierbide has published 9 books, 29 collected volumes and 57 articles.
