 link

The prize is the legacy of John Hurst (1927-2003), who did so much to promote the field of medieval settlement.

This year’s John Hurst Memorial Prize will again comprise a competition for up to four students (postgraduate or advanced level) to present a fifteen-minute paper on any theme related to medieval landscape and settlement in the British Isles or Europe during the morning session of the MSRG Winter Seminar. This will take place on Saturday 11th December 2021.  The work should include results and in the past presentations have included masters dissertations and preliminary results or chapters from doctoral research. Students enrolled in landscape archaeology, history, name studies, geography and similar subject areas, whose research relates to the study of medieval landscapes and settlements are warmly encouraged to apply.

The best paper will win £200, with the winner invited to submit a short article based on their paper for potential inclusion in Medieval Settlement Research journal. Full details of how to enter are HERE
