Ainmean Charraige/Carrick Names exists to shine a light on the fascinating variety of place and personal names in the Earldom of Carrick.
With significant cultural contributions to the Carrick onomasticon from Brittonic, Northumbrian, Gaelic and more recently the Scots and English languages, there is an impressive variety to get to grips with!
Gaelic place and personal names dominate, reflecting the length of time Gaelic was spoken (probably from c.900 to 1700 or so).
