Job Description:
To be considered for this opportunity, candidates MUST have an active security clearance and willing to complete a Polygraph.
As a Toponymist/Linguist, you will analyze and conflate information associated with feature data within the Geographic Names Database (GNDB). You will prepare files and maps for work, accurately entering data to maintain and update the GNDB. You will respond to questions concerning the proper and correct usage of names, various Romanization systems, and other descriptive information related to Geographic Names, policies, and procedures. Interpret and apply national and international policies governing the treatment of names and general guidelines coming from the US Board on Geographic Names and other related organizations. You will use the Geographic Names Processing System (GNPS), charts, imagery, and geospatial tools to refine names information.
Required Skills and Education:
Required education: High School/GED or Bachelor's degree, depending on level of position.
SKILLS: Candidates must have experience using the following software applications: ArcGIS or GeoMedia Pro, and the Microsoft Office tool suite. Candidates must have expertise in forigen languages - Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, or other foreign languages. Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and will interact with team members, customer representatives, external customers, and functional peer groups.
