which will take place

The place of the conference:
Institute of the European Culture at Adam Mickiewicz
University,

The conference aims at discussing the onomastic features of a wide selection of onyms. It is the functions of names both in the present and in the past which are in our focus. Among the topics to be discussed are the cognitive foundations of naming processes, reasons for onomastic changes, and the motivation for creating new names nowadays and in the history. We are interested in new methodological and research ideas relating to the functions of proper names.
The suggested research areas are as follows:
- the oldest and the latest proper names in the context of the contemporary changes in culture and communication,
- nomina propria in the contemporary and historical discourse,
- names and trends,
- new names – new media,
- pragmatics of names (proper names in the effective communication),
- names and contexts,
- the functions of proper names in the literary and the applied context,
- the hierarchies of functions vs. the classes of names,
- functions of natural language vs. functions of proper names,
- identification and communication,
- reasons for onomastic changes (in the case of anthroponyms and toponyms),
- cognitive foundations of naming processes.
