JOB DESCRIPTION
Prescient is looking for a highly qualified Toponymist/Linguist to support a federal organization. The ideal candidate will have recent and relevant experience supporting the United States Intelligence Community.
Prescient Edge is a Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business in McLean, VA delivering full spectrum intelligence, technology, and security services to corporate, federal, and international clients.  Our current work includes specialized intelligence contracts with the Federal government, as well as due diligence and investigative services for commercial clients.  The Team is comprised of former US Military, Federal Law Enforcement, and Academic leaders, and our working environment is reflective of those top-tier professions.
Responsibilities:
  • Analyze information from the Geographic Names Database (GNDB)
  • Conduct analysis of political geography while providing guidance to non-native linguists and personnel
  • Use native-level language skills to make corrections to original spellings from non-native and native map sources as well as verify the spelling of names and other metadata
  • Apply policies governing the treatment of names from the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (U.S. BGN), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and other related organizations
  • Liaise with Contracting Officer’s Representative and other corporate staff
Job Requirements:
  • Experience with regional toponymy, including language specialization in Russian, Greek, Arabic, Farsi, Korean, French, Spanish, Thai, Albanian, Serbian, Hebrew, Arabic, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indian, Bangladesh, Indonesian, Mandarin Chinese, Uzbek, Pashto, and/or Dari
  • Must have advanced knowledge of geography, cartography, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Must have knowledge of computer programs: ArcGIS or GeoMedia Pro and common office software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university; a Master’s Degree is highly desired
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience
  • Must have proficient oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to perform under pressure
  • Must demonstrate direct and current knowledge of the mission, structure, and key programs of the USIC
Clearance Level Required – TS/SCI
