Facebook has changed the spelling of the name of Kiev

The social network Facebook has changed the spelling of the name of the Ukrainian capital of Kiev.

This was stated by Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba.

According to him, Facebook officially switched to using Kyiv instead of Kiev.
“This was reported today in response to a request from the Foreign Ministry,” he wrote on Facebook.
According to him, the old marks will remain with the previous marks, and all new ones will be correct.
“From now on it will be Kyiv - the addresses and places in which the capital of Ukraine is mentioned will use just such transliteration from Ukrainian, not Russian,” he added.
On June 13, the United States Geographic Names Council also decided to change the rule for spelling Kiev in an international database.
The Rosreestr noted that the decision of the American authorities does not apply to Russian cartographers.
