Part two of a recording of an online research symposium held on Friday 22nd September 2023, 13.00 – 17.00. It was organised by Dr Jane Pilcher (Nottingham Trent University, UK) and Dr Ivona Barešová (Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic) on behalf of the People’s Names Research Network.
This online research symposium aims to advance the present state of knowledge about contemporary gender-related personal naming practices especially in contexts, observed in many countries, of recent shifts around gender equality and in conceptualizations of gender as non-binary. The symposium brings together scholars who are examining gender and given names across a range of languages and cultures in Europe (Spanish, Bulgarian, Icelandic, Czech and German) and Asia (Japanese and Mandarin Chinese). Contributors incorporate the latest findings about current preferences for expressing gender in names, identifying historical shifts, regional and cultural specifics, and their interactions with more general trends in gender relations and identities.

Dear colleagues, we cordially invite you to the 23rd Slovak Onomastic conference with international participation
"Traditional and New in Onomastics"
The conference will take place from September 10 to 12, 2024, at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov in Prešov, Slovakia.
Organised by the Institute of Slovak and Media Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Prešov in Prešov, Slovak Linguistics Society at the Ľ. Štúr Institute of Linguistics (Slovak Academy of Sciences) in Bratislava, and Slovak Onomastic Commission.
Thematic areas: onomastic theory and methodology, onomastic terminology, traditional and new trends in anthroponomastics, traditional and new trends in toponomastics, traditional and new trends in chrematonomastics, onomastics in relation to other (linguistic) disciplines, proper names in literature, orthographic aspects of proper nouns.
Registration is carried out online on the website until July 23, 2024.

3. starptautiskā zinātniskā konference „ONOMASTIKAS PĒTĪJUMI”
Latvijas Universitātes Latviešu valodas institūts aicina piedalīties 3. starptautiskajā zinātniskajā konferencē „Onomastikas pētījumi”, kas notiks 2024. gada 9.–10. maijā Latvijas Universitātē. Šo konferenci veltām mūsu kolēģim Ojāram Bušam (1944–2017), kuram 2024. gada 28. aprīlī būtu 80. jubileja. Konferences tēma ir „Īpašvārdu mainība”. Gaidām referātu pieteikumus par vietvārdu un personvārdu, kā arī citu īpašvārdu mainību – mainīšanos un mainīšanu – gan laikā, gan cilvēku apziņā lingvistisku un ekstralingvistisku faktoru ietekmē.
Konferences darba valodas: latviešu, angļu un vācu. Referāta ilgums – 20 minūtes.

3rd International Scientific Conference “ONOMASTIC INVESTIGATIONS”.
Latvian Language Institute (University of Latvia) invites to participate in the 3rd International Scientific Conference “Onomastic investigations”. Conference will be held at the University of Latvia on May 9–10, 2024. The conference is dedicated to our colleague Ojārs Bušs (1944–2017) who would have celebrated his 80th anniversary on April 28, 2024. The theme of the conference is “Variability of proper names.” We invite you to submit paper topics that address an area of research relevant the variability of place and personal names, as well as other proper names. We invite to look at their changes and changing processes, both in time and in perception, and under the influence of linguistic and extralinguistic factors.
Working languages: Latvian, English, German.
Duration of presentation: 20 minutes.
Please submit the application form and the abstract of your presentation (2500-3000 characters with spaces) by 15 January 2024 online: https://lavi.lu.lv/
Abstracts, regardless of the language of the presentation, must be submitted in English.
The notification of acceptance/rejection will be sent by 1 March 2024.
After positive peer-review, articles based on the presentations will be published in the journal of the conference “Onomastic Investigations III”.
Participation fee:
EUR 80 (paid by 20 March 2024) or EUR 90 (after 20 March 2024) for presenter;
EUR 60 (paid by 20 March 2024) or EUR 65 (after 20 March 2024) for each co-author participating in the conference.
Participation fee includes:
