Many happy returns to Prof. Dieter Kremer on his prestigious 80th birthday

It's not every day that an outstanding onomatologist turns the grand age of 80, so many happy returns to Prof. Dieter Kremer on this very prestigious birthday !

Just in time for his birthday in Berlin, he was able to receive the new volume of "his" series on Romance personal names.

We look forward to his blog contributions and to the interesting Festschrift that will be published on this occasion.

Kremer earned his doctoral degree at the University of Cologne in 1967 with the prize-winning thesis "Die germanischen Personennamen in Katalonien". He was Professor of Romance Linguistics at the University of Trier from 1976 to 2008. The main focus of his research is (in continuation of the work of his teacher Joseph M. Piel) the onomastics of the Romance languages. Professor Kremer initiated a pan-Romance research project (PatRom) in 1987, the results of which we may enjoy since 2004.

Dieter Kremer was awarded with the Henning Kaufmann Prize (1977) and the Prix Chavée of the Institut de France (2005). He is a corresponding member of the Academia Portuguesa da História and the Real Academia Galega and, since 2011, Chairman of the German Society for Onomastics. Between 1993 and 1996, and in 2008 and 2011, he served as Vice President of the International Council of Onomastic Sciences.
