The Onomastics Cabinet of the University of the Balearic Islands announces the organization of the XXXII Conference on Anthroponymy and Toponymy. This year, it will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in Alaró, specifically at the Casal de Son Tugores. The main goal of this conference, as with every edition, is to promote knowledge in the field of onomastics through the presentation of works on anthroponymy and toponymy.
The XXXII Conference is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sports of the Government of the Balearic Islands, as well as the Balearic Institute of Studies. Additionally, the collaboration of the Alaró City Council is to be highlighted.
Call for Papers
Content of Communications Submissions must be unpublished and will be particularly valued if they study onomastics in an interdisciplinary manner and from new methodological perspectives. Studies on any specific branches of anthroponymy and toponymy are welcome: phytotoponymy, zoonymy, surnames, ship names, anthropotoponymy, coronymy, hagiotoponymy, first names, names of meteorological phenomena, microtoponymy, neotoponymy, nicknames, urban toponymy, hydronymy, thalassonymy, mining toponymy, island toponymy, etc.
Submission Proposals Before the conference, scholars interested in presenting papers must send the title of the communication(s) and a summary of up to 200 words for each proposal via email to the Onomastics Cabinet (consultes.onomastica@uib.cat).
The deadline for submission is Monday, September 9, 2024, at 12:00 PM. Each participant can present more than one communication, and joint works are also allowed.
Presentation Submissions Participants have until Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 12:00 PM to send their presentations in PDF format, along with any other material they wish to project during the conference. Presentations will last approximately 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the final number of proposals. Once the final program is closed, the Onomastics Cabinet will inform participants of the exact time they will have to present their work.
Submission of Final Papers A digital edition of all communications presented at the conference will be made. Final documents must be submitted by Monday, May 5, 2025, at 12:00 PM in DOCX or ODT format, following this structure: title, author(s), summary, body of the work, and annexes. If the document contains images, they must be properly referenced and presented as separate digital files to facilitate layout.
Registration for the Conference
Registration is free. Anyone wishing to attend the conference must register through the Onomastics Cabinet’s website (https://slg.uib.cat/Gabinet-dOnomastica/). Registration is expected to start in mid-September, once the final program is closed.
Additional Information
Further details of the conference will be provided in the next circular. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance and participation, and the rest of the audience will receive a certificate of attendance.

El Gabinet d’Onomàstica de la Universitat de les Illes Balears anuncia l’organització de la XXXII Jornada d’Antroponímia i Toponímia. Enguany serà el dissabte 26 d’octubre de 2024 a Alaró, concretament al Casal de Son Tugores. L’objectiu fonamental d’aquesta jornada és, com en cada edició, fomentar el coneixement en l’àmbit de l’onomàstica a través de la presentació de treballs d’antroponímia i toponímia.
La XXXII Jornada compta amb el patrocini de la Conselleria de Turisme, Cultura i Esports del Govern de les Illes Balears, així com de l’Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics. A més, hem de destacar la col·laboració de l’Ajuntament d’Alaró.
Convocatòria de comunicacions
Contingut de les comunicacions
Les comunicacions han de ser inèdites i es valorarà, especialment, que estudiïn l’onomàstica de manera interdisciplinària i des de noves perspectives metodològiques. Seran benvinguts els estudis sobre qualsevol de les branques específiques de l’antroponímia i la toponímia: fitonímia, zoonímia, cognoms, noms d’embarcacions, antropotoponímia, coronímia, hagionímia, prenoms, noms de fenòmens meteorològics, microtoponímia, neotoponímia, malnomínia, toponímia urbana, hidronímia, talassonímia, toponímia minera, nesonímia, etc.
Propostes de comunicacions
Abans de la Jornada, els estudiosos interessats a presentar comunicacions a la Jornada han d’enviar per correu electrònic al Gabinet d’Onomàstica (consultes.onomastica@uib.cat) el títol de la comunicació (o comunicacions) i un resum de, com a màxim, 200 paraules per cada proposta.
La data límit per fer arribar les propostes és el dilluns 9 de setembre de 2024 a les 12 hores. Cada participant pot presentar més d’una comunicació i també es permeten treballs conjunts.
Presentacions de les comunicacions
Els participants tenen fins al dimecres 23 d’octubre de 2024 a les 12 hores per enviar les presentacions de les comunicacions, en format PDF, juntament amb qualsevol altre material que desitgin projectar durant la Jornada.
Les exposicions tindran una durada aproximada de 10 a 20 minuts, depenent del nombre final de propostes. Quan hagi tancat el programa definitiu, el Gabinet d’Onomàstica comunicarà als participants el temps exacte que tindran per presentar el seu treball.
Lliurament de les comunicacions
Es farà una edició digital conjunta de totes les comunicacions que s’hagin presentat a la Jornada.
Els comunicants han de lliurar el document definitiu abans del dilluns 5 de maig de 2025 a les 12 hores. Ha de ser en format DOCX o ODT, i ha de seguir l’estructura següent: títol, autor/s, resum, cos del treball i annexos. Si ha de contenir imatges, aquestes s’han de referenciar correctament i s’han de presentar com a arxius digitals separats per facilitar-ne la maquetació.
Inscripció a la Jornada
La inscripció és de franc. Tothom que vulgui assistir a la Jornada s’hi haurà d’apuntar a través de la pàgina web del Gabinet d’Onomàstica (https://slg.uib.cat/Gabinet-dOnomastica/).
El període d’inscripció començarà previsiblement a mitjan setembre, una vegada que s’hagi tancat el programa definitiu.
