At a festive reception in Chemnitz, Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Hengst, the first professor of onomastics at Leipzig University (1993- 1999) and founding member of the German Society for Onomastic Research, was honored on the occasion of his 90th birthday. Karlheinz Hengst has been there from the very beginning, 70 years ago, when the Onomastic Working Group was founded in Leipzig, and he has remained connected to Leipzig University ever since. Recently, he passed the baton in Jena to an initiative that will focus on Thuringian place names. He continues to be active as a consultant, especially for Slavic names, at the Naming Advisory Center. Namenkundliches Zentrum der Uni Leipzig
Following the laudation by Dietlind Kremer, who also conveyed the congratulations from the University of Leipzig, the attendees were delighted by the news that in April, a collected volume containing the latest writings of the jubilarian on the topic of 'Germans and Slavs in the Middle Ages: Dominance and Integration,' edited by Andrea and Silvio Brendler, will be published by Baar-Verlag Hamburg. Onomasticians and historians alike can look forward to this new publication. The good news was celebrated with the sound of violins.
For this, we extend our heartfelt thanks and: WE CONGRATULATE HEARTILY on this special birthday !!!
