Proceedings of the 25th International Congress of Onomastic Sciences (Glasgow, 2014)

The question of whether or not summaries should be produced in all three ICOS languages (English, German and French) in the Congress proceedings was widely discussed at the meeting of the ICOS Board held on August 29th, 2014. Overall, it was determined that it is for Congress proceedings editors to adopt their own linguistic policy.



At its March meeting in Hanover in 2015, the ICOS Board supported a proposition from the editor of the ICOS Proceedings (Glasgow, 2014) to include in the proceedings, and with the
consent of the authors, the abstracts from those papers that were presented at the Congress but not submitted for publication.

Preparations for the publication of the 2014 Congress Proceedings are well under way. Proofs were sent to authors in January 2016, with the request that corrections be made promptly, as the editors aim to publish the Proceedings online by the summer of 2016.

ICOS 1984 vs. ICOS 2014

Updated version of the ICOS 2014 congress programme and abstracts available

There is now an updated version of the congress programme available. Some changes have been made to the arrangement of panels and papers, so please double check that you know when your paper is due to be presented.

25th International Congress of Onomastic Sciences

We have already mentioned the opening of the Glaswegian website for ICOS 2014:

As we know the 25th International Congress of Onomastic Sciences will be held at the University of Glasgow on 25‐29 August 2014.

The new information is:

- Delegates will be welcomed at an evening reception on Sunday 24 August, followed by the main Congress opening on Monday 25 August. 

- Papers and posters will be presented throughout the week, with full‐day excursions on Wednesday 27 August. A prize will be awarded for the best poster. 

The theme of ICOS 2014 is Names and their Environment.

Keynote speakers are:

•  Richard Coates, University of the West of England: ‘Family Names in the UK and Beyond’

•  Peder Gammeltoft, University of Copenhagen: ‘Onomastics for All: How can New Technology Help Broaden the Appeal of Name Research?’

(on the right)

Proposals are welcome for 20‐minute papers and posters on all aspects of name studies. 

Abstracts can be submitted online via the Congress website, which is now available at http://www.icos2014.com/.
